What is a great venue to throw a party in SF for 50-100 people that is outdoors or partially outdoors?
Let’s take you to rooftops :).El Techo de Lolinda. This atmospheric Mexican spot is ideal for kicking back with a paloma while admiring the skyline. The open-air rooftop is casually romantic, dotted with small tables and illuminated by string lights overhead. A glass wall circling the perimeter shields revelers from wind, but doesn't block the FiDi skyline. Big blue umbrellas get unfurled on hot days, and heat lamps are fired up at night. Opt for one of the spicy-sweet mezcal cocktails like El Joven Picante, a combination of mezcal, honey, lime and chipotle bitters, or a pitcher of the strong house margaritas, which includes Ocho Plata tequila, Fidencio mescal and Combier triple sec.Dirty habit. This swanky SoMa rooftop feels downright cozy—especially when nursing a tumbler of bourbon beside the fire pit. Bar manager Brian Means, formerly of Fifth Floor and Zero Zero, is a brown spirits enthusiast, serving more than 300 rare varieties from around the world. Creative seasonal drinks are served in vintage cocktail glasses and incorporate tea, spices and fresh herbs. And though the Habit’s patrons are largely a suit-and-stiletto set—some sipping “communal” cocktails designed for sharing—the bar doesn’t take itself too seriously. The beer selection ranges from PBR to La Chouffe and beer-and-shot pairings come in tongue-in-cheek combinations like the Red-Headed Stepchild: an Heretic Red IPA and a Pierre Ferrand 1840 cognac ($10).JonesHidden behind a pair of blue steel gates in the heart of the Tenderloin, this spacious indoor-outdoor bar has earned a loyal following for its landscaped, heated terrace and happy hour deals: $3 beer specials and $5 wine and cocktail specials (cash only). Though “roof deck” is a bit of a stretch—taller buildings surround you on three sides—the buzzy perch affords a birds-eye view of the Tenderloin below. The crowd is young and stylish, converging from Polk Street, FiDi, Mid-Market and SoMA, and the cocktails are carefully crafted (which sometimes leads to a wait at the bar). Try the Trendy Loin: coriander-infused gin, house-made lemongrass syrup, lime and sparkling wine garnished with fresh lemongrass.
How would the SF Bay Area be different today if they'd used some of the gold-rush money to build a dike, reroute the rivers, pump out the water and fill it with dirt up to ground level?
So many problems with this question.First: Scale. Do you have any idea HOW LARGE the SF Bay is? 1,600 Square Miles! How on earth do you fill all that in?Second: Flooding. The bay is there because three major rivers (Sacramento, American and San Joaquin) come together here. That plus innumerable other smaller waterways means that you have millions of gallons of water coming into the bay every day. Where would all that water go?Third: The port. The real reason why San Francisco exists is because of the bay. There is really nothing terribly interesting about San Francisco during the gold rush. Except for the fact that it was on the way to the gold fields. The Bay made this possible. In this time period, water was the major transportation mode. Filling in the bay would have been a disaster for them economically.Fourth: Environmental impact. There are several major ecosystems represented by the bay. We did huge damage to them during the first part of the 20th century and are just starting to set them right again.Fifth: Aesthetics. The bay is beautiful and our lives revolve around it. Why on earth would we fill it in?You get the idea.Filling in the bay would have pretty much ended San Francisco as we know it. Perhaps the city would not be there at all.BTW, the opposite of what you ask actually happened. During the ice age you could walk to the Farallons because the sea level was so much lower:
How much would it cost me to enroll in computer science in the City College of San Francisco?
You're best off calling their admissions or bursar's (student accounts) office for a full rundown of everything you'd need to pay.If you're talking about that many units or credits or whatever, that's a full-time load, and that has its own specific cost. Then, there are fees (access to assorted facilities, which you're required to pay depending on what courses you enroll in) of various sorts, not all of which are called "fees." And none of that includes the cost of books or housing. Some schools post a sample budget, but if you're asking here, that suggests that school doesn't, so people there would know better.
What is so special about the Para SF of the Indian Army?
Since searching on Google for Para SF results in this link being in the top 5, I have changed this answer and moved my previous answer to this question: Chandrahas Rao's answer to What are the pros and cons of being a PARA SF operative in Indian Army?To truly understand what is so special about Para SF we have to understand how does a normal Indian Army soldier become a SF commandoPart I : How does a soldier become a Para SF commando?Let me start by using a Film’s scene to make you understand why the SF commandos are called “ Men Apart, Every Man An Emperor”Tiger Shroff in Baaghi 2 film plays the role of a Para SF commando and says: जो ये तेरा Tortureहै. वो मेरा Warm upहै (translation: What is torture for you is warm up for me)It struck me how that statement is actually true for the Para SF commandos especially during their trainingTo wear the coveted Maroon Beret and the Balidan badge, the finest soldiers in Indian Army have to prove that they are superbly fit and motivated at the bare minimumKeep doing multiple 40 Km runs with 30 Kg weights, sleep deprivation, no food, no water for hours at a stretch for many many days. After surviving all that, start another run this time with increased weights:1st stage: Run with 20 L of Jerry can filled with water x 22nd stage: Run with truck tires weighing 35 Kg+3rd Stage: Run with logs as big as your size and weighing 50 Kg+rest for a tiny while, then they go through thisSimulated Drowning Lvl I : An instructor keeps drowning you multiple times in cold water after all the ordeals described above. All the soldier has to do is tap and sign on a form saying he don’t want to become a SF commandoSimulated Drowning Lvl II: Tie their hands and legs and throw them into water and still the soldier should remain calm and keep remembering that he wants to become a SF operatorCome on, just tap and say I don’t want the coveted maroon badge, How stubborn are you?No, fine keep going on, run now into a jungle and with your weapons ready. It’s fine that you haven’t slept since 30+ hours and have undergone all the hell possible, but now… get ready for an ambushTrained SF commandos will ambush you and fire at you, you have to escape, make mock stretchers and IV fluid , and run with wounded soldiers on the stretchers back to the training camp with all that loadAbove 6 Image SourcesCongratulations. You have completed… half of the 90 day testAll he has to do next is do the 100 Km Endurance run with 10 Kg battle load and 7 Kg rifle. Remember the weight of the soldier by now would itself be 50–65 Kg onlyDay 60 to 90: The final and toughest test is reserved for those who make it to this stage, the Counter Terror OperationsThe soldier gets to participate in actual combat in either J&K or North East. If he survives and passes the tests, then finally congratulations to himHe gets this badgeHe becomes a soldier’s soldierHe becomes a SF operator, one of the deadliest forces in the entire worldPart 2: What does this soldier’s soldier do with his skills? They are provided state of the art weaponry, armor and equipment to ensure they are the sword arm which executes the Nation’s will10 Para SF: Jaffna University Helidrop 1987The Jaffna University Football field was the location where 120 commandos of 10 Para SF and 360 soldiers of 13 Sikh Li would be inserted to swiftly capture the LTTE leadership and finish off the Sri lankan operations quicklyHowever, the LTTE were informed on the impending attack and they surrounded the Football ground and its surrounding buildings with their men equipped with assault rifles, RPGs and heavy machine gunsIn the darkness, 80 commandos and 30 Sikh Li soldiers were heli-dropped before the choppers came under heavy attack by RPGs and machine gunsThese 110 soldiers virtually stood no chance, since they were surrounded on all sides by .50 caliber heavy machine guns (left most bullet in the image)ImageIn the morning, it was found out that 29 out of 30 Sikh LI soldiers died and one was capturedBut the SF operators?Their skill and training ensured that they escaped the football field, dug into a nearby building and kept fighting back till dawn until Indian Army Tanks crushed the LTTE forces and rescued them after 18 hours of being heli dropped into the firing zone itselfImageIn total the Delta company lost 29 men killed in action, accounting for almost all of the Sikh LI casualties. The Para Commandos lost six men in the battleLet this sink in, the entire LTTE force in their headquarters where they are most heavily fortified and armed with heavy machine guns could not even kill 10% of the Para SF soldiers for eighteen hoursWhat happens when you unleash this unparalleled force on the Line of Control?4 Para SF and 9 Para SF : 2016 Surgical StrikesTeams from 4 Para SF crossed the LoC in the Nowgam sector, with teams from 9 Para SF simultaneously crossing the LoC in Pooonch. By 2 a.m. IST, according to army sources, the special forces teams had travelled 1 km -3 km on foot, and had begun destroying the terrorist bases with hand-held grenade and 84 mm rocket launchers.ImageEstimated kills range between 30–50 with Indian Army intercepting Pakistani radio intercepts confirming 20 deaths of LeT terrorists. The SF teams then swiftly returned to the Indian side of the LoC with zero casualties21 Para SF: 2015 Mynamar Cross border raid21 PARA (SF) carried a cross-border operation along the India–Myanmar border and destroyed two Militant camps one each of NSCN (K) and KYKL, along the India–Myanmar border. The operations were carried out inside the Myanmar territory along the Nagaland and Manipur border at two locations158 terrorists were killed with zero casualties for 21 Para SFTragedy of Captain KaliaCaptain Saurabh Kalia, along with sepoys Bhanwar Lal Bagaria, Arjun Ram, Bhika Ram, Moola Ram and Naresh Singh, were kidnapped by Pakistani troops.Post mortem examinations revealed that the Pakistanis had tortured their prisoners by: burning their bodies with cigarettes, piercing the ear-drums with hot rods, puncturing eyes before removing them, breaking most of their teeth and bones, fracturing their skulls, cutting the lips, chipping of nose, chopping off limbs and private organs of the soldiers, and finally shooting them dead, as evidenced by bullet wounds to the temple. The post-mortem also confirmed the injuries were inflicted ante-mortem (before death) Revenge of the SFThe seven Pakistani soldiers were allegedly tied up and dragged across a ravine running across the LoC. The bodies were returned, according to Pakistan’s complaint, bearing signs of brutal torture.“Pakistan chose to underplay the Nadala incident,” a senior Pakistani military officer involved with its Military Operations Directorate told The Hindu, “as General Pervez Musharraf had only recently staged his coup, and did not want a public outcry that would spark a crisis with India.” Since then the Pakistanis didn’t as much as touch an Indian soldier leave alone torturing them.I would conclude by talking about Lance Naik Mohan Goswami, 9 Para SF , Ashok Chakra, the one man killing machine embodying every Para SF commandoImage Source: He said he would kill 10 terrorists before he died and he didHe was actively involved in three operations in which ten terrorists were killed and one captured alive in his last 11 days. The first operation was conducted in Khurmur, Handwara, on 23 August 2015 and resulted in the elimination of three Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists. He then volunteered for second operation in Rafiabad. The operation, which lasted over two days, led to the elimination of three Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists and the capture of one terrorist. Goswami's last operation was on 3 September 2015, where he was part of an ambush team. He was injured during the gunfight and succumbed to his wounds, but not before killing two and wounding another two terroristsFate whispers to the maroon “Beware the Storm”The maroon whispers back “I am the Storm”......Chandrahas RaoFootnotes Baaghi 2 Official Trailer | Tiger Shroff | Disha Patani | Sajid Nadiadwala | Ahmed Khan Training of Para SF Commando | Toughest Military Training in India | Veer by Discovery Jaffna University Helidrop - Wikipedia Caliber - Wikipedia What makes Indian Army Para SF a Versatile force - Defence Lover | DailyHunt Jaffna University Helidrop - Wikipedia What makes Indian Army Para SF a Versatile force - Defence Lover | DailyHunt Saurabh Kalia - Wikipedia Locked in U.N. files, 15 years of bloodletting at LoC Mohan Nath Goswami - Wikipedia
If I get a 2bd apartment by myself in SF, how hard is it to find roommates to fill the spots?
This is a great way to find an apartment as long as you factor in at least a couple weeks to find a good roommate. Although you're going to get a lot of interest, dealing with logistics and compatible personalities is easier said than done. Another potential obstacle is that you'll be the only one on the lease-- meaning you have to sublease everyone and be on the hook if anything goes wrong. That said, it's by far the best way to make sure you get an apartment you like.A great alternative to the Craigslist-roommate-search is to attend an A-List Happy Hour, hosted by Apartment List. It's a weekly open bar in SF with 30+ roommate/apartment seekers all hanging out, having fun, and meeting new people. Check out The Best Way to Find Roommates for more info on the events and the mobile app!
